An accomplished soloist and composer, Italian double bass player Pietro Lusvardi was born in Lugano, Switzerland.

In 1997 he earned his degree from the Conservatorio of Como in Italy with a special emphasis on the contrabass. Since then, his contrabass has carried him around the globe and led to performances with numerous musicians and orchestras. Lusvardi's music ranges from serenely beautiful harmonic sounds to rhythmical jazz improvisations, and is always an interesting treat for the ears.

In conjunction with Maximilian Brooks, Lusvardi founded the award winning contemporary jazz ensemble Gatto Marte in 1994. Their achievements include winning the Italian national competition at the Arezzo Wave Love Festival in July 2000, and 1st prize for best music composed and performed live for silent film at the Harlock International Festival of Bolzano. The ensemble has published five discs and have composed and performed live the scores of numerous silent films.
